A Checklist For Preparing For Your Roof Replacement Project

Blog

Are you getting ready to get the roof on your property replaced? As soon as you schedule your roof replacement with a roofing service, it is a good idea to start getting prepared for the project. Check out this checklist to get prepared for your residential roof replacement so the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Clear the Area Around Your Home

Walk around the perimeter of your home and move anything out of the way that could be damaged or in the way. Most people keep a lot of items around the outside of the house, such as patio furniture, outdoor playthings, pet houses, vehicles, and garden decor. These items may impede the workflow as the roofers work to access the roof, but they may also be vulnerable to damage during the demolition of the old roof.

Make Way for Dumpster Placement

When you're having old roofing removed, a dumpster is a necessity. To make the project easier on the roofers, make sure you have an area near your home where a dumpster can be placed temporarily. Ideally, the dumpster will be in close enough proximity that the old materials can be scooped off the roof and into the dumpster. The receptacle is best placed on a solid surface where the ground is mostly level.

Make Arrangements for an Outing on Roofing Day

Roofing a home can be a noisy process. Not only will there be several sets of feet up on the roof, but there will be tools being used, hammering, and possibly a lot of sounds that can reverberate throughout the house. It can be a good idea to make sure you are present when the roofing company arrives just in case there are any final details to go over, but then have a plan in place to spend the day out of the house.

Remove Implements on the Roof

Several items are added to a roof that will have to be taken down when a new roof is installed. For example, if you have a satellite system, the satellite will be mounted on the roof in many cases. Before the scheduled day of replacement, make arrangements to have these extra implements removed so the roofers will not have to handle the process on their own. Anything that is part of the roofing system, such as vents or gutters, can stay, as the roofers are accustomed to removing and replacing those items.

Creating Great Roofing From the Start

When you want to make your home shine, there are some very important basic components you should be mindful of. For starters, you should evaluate the exterior of your home to determine whether or not the siding or exterior cladding needs to be replaced. Next, you should check to see if the roofing needs to be replaced, since it really can make a powerful difference. Roofing can take up a great deal of the visual space from the outside, so think carefully about how yours looks. Pay attention to issues like aged, curling shingles or roofing that contains dips or divots. Check out this blog for great tips about roofing.
